The Founding of Munster Hemp
Munster Hemp was founded by Seán Meaney, a farmer deeply rooted in Munster’s rich agricultural heritage and driven by a vision for a sustainable future. Shaped by the traditions of his family’s dairy, beef, and crop farm, Seán combined his passion for innovation with a strong respect for the land passed down through generations.
His journey into hemp began while attending a sustainability conference, where a presentation on regenerative farming and climate-resilient crops sparked a new curiosity. Intrigued by hemp’s potential to restore soil, capture carbon, and serve multiple industries, Seán returned home determined to explore the crop further. What started as a side project soon evolved into a mission to introduce Irish farmers to the power of hemp.
With a background in Applied Physics and Instrumentation from Munster Technological University (MTU), Seán had the technical skills to back his vision. This led to the development of a custom device capable of measuring soil health, CO₂ sequestration, and more—tools designed to support farmers embracing the future of sustainable agriculture.
